In this thread i will post some of the european patents relevant to table tennis rubber technology, mostly by ESN or individuals working there or from the same field.

Hope these patent will open up our minds to new possibilities. Otherwise sometimes we think in linear terms and oversimplify issues based on our limited visibility in the subject.

My first contribution is patent number: DE19952138

Excerpt:

Table tennis racket coverings that meet the requirements of the Technical Leaflat T4 of the International Table Tennis Federation, have high-power applications today a standard geometry and a dimpled rubber in certain cell rubber thickness.
The proposed invention solves the problem of generating measurably improved playability by purely geometric measures. This was achieved by increasing the cellular rubber thickness while reducing the length and the patterned rubber nubs rubber base thickness and a reduction of the ratio between bubble diameter and burling distance.

Great thread.  How many have you managed to find?  I have been digging up patents lately as well.  So far I have found only two filed by ESN quite some years ago.  Yours is one of them.  I'm dead sure this is the patent for those few models with very thin topsheet but thick-as-hell 2.6mm sponge that have appeared on the market for a short time before being pulled out due to poor acceptance.  The other one was filed before it on 3/15/95.  Although there is no mentioning of the word, judging by the date I guess this is what they claim to have found in the lab which was ultimately named the Tensor.
