My recreational buddy wants some cheap rubber, honestly just something grippy, bouncy, and durable.  Medium soft and not super tacky.  What should I buy for him?  I remember years ago reading a little about gambler outlaw so that came to mind but times change.

Not sure what he considers cheap, but Xiom Vega Series are great rubber for around $35, I really like the Europe one. Otherwise I think Focus Snipe 3 and 729-5 are cheaper Chinese rubber that aren't super tacky, but most really cheap Chinese rubbers are tacky. The only really cheap rubber (<$15) I have experience with are DHS H3 Neo and TG2 Neo. Both are great forehand rubber for aggressive topspin.

Learned this, kokutaku Blutenkirsch, from a forumer here.
Back then, they sell  4 per lot (free shipping), I bought 4.
Plays very well.

Now they only sell 10, or 2, or 1 per lot.

Palio Hidden Dragon is worth to try. Grippy rubber with slightly tacky topsheet.

Dawei Super XP 2008. You can get from Colestt.com for $8. Good rubber. A bit heavy in max, but otherwise great.
I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...
Cybershape Carbon

Lumberjack TT, not for lovers of beautiful strokes. No time to train...

1.5 m/m thick sponge will do best of all, as being most easy to control.

Thanks, I bought him a couple sheets of 2008 for $18 shipped, he will be super happy. I also bought a venus-14 for me lol. A K-4 was my first real blade back many years ago when I played extremely regularly, but I decided to try a YEO and it worked so well for me that I never thought twice.  Sold my nice old K-4 years ago unfortunately, it was much stiffer and bouncier than my YEO.  Nowadays I only play with (mostly teach playing hardbat) a whole bunch of college students who have only been playing a few months.  My old sheet of H3 neo my chinese buddy brought back for me and my old sheet of omega IV pro are still in nice shape, I wonder If I will dig this venus.  I've become so much more lean, powerful, coordinated, and athletic since I used to play from playing other sports, I wonder how good I could be now. I wonder how far away the nearest club is from Paducah, KY.
