Thanks for the additional data points/info eonblue! Sounds like someone at Friendship dumped a bunch of rubbers on the market that should have been selected out and thrown in the trash. This shows how important it is to actually share and corroborate experiences so we an avoid buying badly manufactured rubbers.

WARRANTY
1. If you get a sheet of rubber that de laminates like that it is a warranty issue. E mail us with your order ID. Battle 1 has de lamination issues, even my latest shipment direct from the factory is 1 in 4 has an issue, too big to put it to market, the glue putting the pips to the rubber is crispy, I have seen this before with some other big pore sponges where the glue has an iffy bond with the sponge unless the timing is perfect. Too bad as it is a nice rubber even if it does lack a dynamic feel. I would honestly hold off from ordering this anywhere until this is solved, I have an e mail into 729 as of today. That's great ZP, luckily I had a good one mounted on my backup blade at the tournament or else I would not have finally broke 1800 this last weekend. I don't notice less dynamic feeling or play any worse than I did with T05FX or Vega Europe.
Since I have another big tournament coming up next month, it'll be really hard to switch my game up to something different that quick so I'm kind of in a bind. I'll keep that warranty in mind for the two from you I still haven't mounted yet, will probably practice with at least one of those and then if the ones from Eacheng aren't locked in, will probably have to buy more from you for backup. The one that bubbled I'm not concerned about because I don't have proof, it went strait to the trash bin in the motel. I'm more concerned about what 729's response is than any type of monetary issue, because this is the rubber I chose to stop my 7 year EJ spree and want to keep playing with it (reliably)! |

Here is one more data point. 729 Aurora having the *exact* same issue. Obviously, 729 is dropping the ball on these rubbers:
How can such a huge company let such garbage even get into circulation? You don't ever seem to see that with DHS, even their cheapo commercial versions.

pretty gutted about this as it just happened to me too. been playing battle 1 for 6 months and it played great. just changed for new ones two days ago and after 3 hours the fh side has a bubble in the middle. the stock was from eacheng (via ebay) and about 1 month old.

Yeah, this was the worst one I've ever seen personally. The topsheet just wasn't glued on - I didn't peel it back or anything. That was how it was in the sealed packet. They must be having major QC issues with their recent batches. It's a real shame because things seemed to have improved a lot recently. Hopefully it's just a blip.

Have to wonder if there is any relation too that accident in Tian in explosion a month ago. I read on OOAK that it was not near manufacturer but could stock have been stored near there for shipping? Just wondering.

Actually you do see it with all rubbers, DHS included I just warrantied a sheet of NEO last week for a bubble, when I was dealing DONIC we had a batch of F3 and half of them came off the sponge like butter, all that said the issue with battle and newer type large pore china made rubbers is different, chemically the glue they use on all the other top sheets to sponge does not work well with the large pore brittle sponges, I have found they change over a short period of time into a brittle glue bond that can break much too easily, additionally you can see that many times when you manage to pull the top sheet from the sponge it takes a small amount of sponge just the bare surface like a dust, I strongly feel this is likely an unintended chemical reaction between the sponge composition and the adhesive used. Anyone who has had this issue can attest that you can feel the sponge on the glue side and it is crispy and brittle, the glue bond should never feel like that. Also due to the sponge reaction to the glue the timing of the top sheet to sponge is more critical, normally they just do a whole rack of sponge and a whole rack of tops heets, if they wait in the rack even a few seconds too long before bonding the reaction that the glue is having with the sponge will prevent a proper bond. I am not defending the defect however it is a new product (this sponge type) at least for 729. I have a new shipment today straight from the factory I will find time today to unbox and cut a few sheets in half on vid.

You're in a different position to most people Tom - you must see a lot of stock moving through. I've never seen a German rubber with separation issues, for example. If you get time to have a rummage through your recent delivery then that would be really useful!

My thought is, if donic had a batch of f3 that was bad, they probably dumped it on someone that wanted to get into the market on the cheap. In other words, BECAUSE of the problems they looked for someone to sell to that they could slash and burn.
Unfortunately, the business does work like that sometimes. It's entirely possible to get "ganked."

Seems like Chinese companies do more "ganking" than others. I've never had issues with Euro/Jap rubbers as a consumer. It's really not smart to dump defective rubbers on the market and destroy one's own reputation (if there is a good one..otherwise they start with a bad reputation). It still says "729" on it after all.

And? How's the new shipment? Same problem? Did you make the video? If the new shipment doesn't have the problem I'll be one of the first who orders this rubber from you.

11172000???? - ZP - order0 - sticker? - First to bubble
111720001905 - ZP - order1 - sticker7 - Separates easy, unmounted and will use for practice 111720001906 - ZP - order1 - sticker7- Separates but going good 10 hours. 111720001588 - Eacheng - order2 - sticker? - Unopened 111720002040 - Eacheng - order2 - sticker1 - Glued extremely tight except on very corners, ripping to chunks instead of coming off. It seems like the latest 111720002040 is back to normal and that I hopefully hit Eacheng's stock split from old to new. I'll keep track. Edited by eonblue - 10/07/2015 at 12:35pm |

You would think, but some of these companies are operating by a shoestring budget. They simply can't afford to throw away a bad batch. They have to sell it to get funds to buy the materials to make the next batch. They figure to deal with the consequences later.

not to derail, but because it was mentioned previously: Does anyone know what those numbered stickers are on sheets of 729 rubber? Or what the number means.

I have not seen any problems with the new battle1 rubber in my stock, it was a glue issue, the type of glue and the set up time for the glue were off, it seems these problems have been solved. I did do a video a bit ago but never posted it. I will have Stephanie load it to our facebook page today.

You know I've never had anybody complain about this rubber except for the strange, spotty application of the plastic/rubber stuff on the bottom of the sponge.

Great to hear those QC issues being sorted out. I'm thinking about it to replace focus 3 snipe for more spin and a higher throw. Any thoughts?
Also, any of you guys use it for forehand as well? From what I could tell, its not so heavy that you couldn't have it on both wings.

You must get 40 degree battle 1 though. The 42 degree version is heavy (50g vs 46g cut to 15.5x15)
