Hello, my friend! It has been a while since we last chatted.
I actually own this exact Barna blade in my collection. I like this blade because the handle is longer than the traditional handles that you see on these old Barna blades. This particular blade you have was made in the early 1960s and was referred to as the sandwich Barna blade and was made out of mahogany. I’ll see if I can find a picture of mine.

Good luck with your sale! 🙂🙏🏼

And yeah - that blade is really made in 1960's, but I am not sure which year exactly.
Outer plies are dark wood, I am not sure it is mahogany, but possible.
The real name of this model is BARNA SUPER. I added OFFENSIVE, because many people think
Barna blades are only Defensive. There is also another very fast Barna Original wood, but very hard too.

I have never tested this blade seriously, because it is really fast for me.
Long time I played ALL+/OFF- blades and this is much more faster.
I can say this blade has the speed of today's 6.5mm Offensive wood.

Handle is really longer than the standard defensive Barna rackets, I still keep picture from the Barna Defensive, compared with this Barna SUPER.
And I think the handle of this Barna SUPER is very close to my Viscaria S T handle.

Thanks a lot for your wishes, I hope someone who is looking for attractive, rare and playable blade to appreciate my offer. These 50-60 years old blades you can't see every day, especially in this condition.

Hey! It’s definitely mahogany as I own the same paddle and did the research. On the old ITTF Museum website I found an article in one of the newsletters that talked about the history of Barna paddles and they talked about this specific paddle and mentioned it was made of mahogany and was made in the early 1960s (1962 or 1963 I believe). I definitely enjoy hitting with mine and it plays great with Tenergy 25 rubber on my forehand and Tibhar long pips rubber on my backhand.

Also the “defensive” paddles you mention aren’t really defensive. All of these Barna paddles are offensive... the difference between the 2 paddles you posted is that the ones with the shorter handles were hardbat table tennis paddles with hardbat pimpled ox rubber.

The paddle you are selling with the longer handle was designed for the sponge game and came with pimpled sponge rubber.

Your paddle and mine are not the “Barna Super” paddles... those are different as I owned one at one point. What we have is the sandwich paddle which is a lot more rare. Trust me... Barna paddles are my area of expertise. 🙂

The Barna Super paddle looks similar to our paddle here but definitely different as I owned the Barna Super paddle too at one point briefly. Our sandwich paddles are made of mahogany while the Barna Super wasn’t. Also this sandwich paddle wasn’t produced for too long so it’s definitely rare. The article I mentioned earlier also differentiated between our rare mahogany paddle and the Barna Super paddles so they are indeed different even though they might look similar. 🙂

I bought mine off eBay for around $50 US dollars but only because the seller didn’t realize the worth of this paddle and neither did I as I did the research after holding the paddle in my hand and realizing that this Barna paddle was different than all my other Barna paddles... not just the longer handle but the smaller and more narrow head compared to the traditional short handled Barna paddles.

Happy to help, Brother! Just an FYI to you... on Germany’s eBay site right now is a Barna Super paddle and you will see that it looks similar to our paddle but is different for two reasons... first, because the Super has a tear drop Barna logo on the handle whereas our Barna paddles have rectangular shaped Barna logo which you can see on my paddle. 2nd reason is that our paddles are made from reddish colored Mahogany Wood... the Super isn’t. 🙂
