Bobrow is a showman. He lobs because that is his type of show. He plays for exciting points; he is not playing to win (although he is trying to) as he is playing to win via his style. Nothing wrong with this at all. He is having fun, like the rest of us.

II think the nature of the anti-ej is being misunderstood here. It's not that he has a weak bh so he decided to get a control rubber like mark v. It's just that he never needed anything faster... |

I think Bobrow could play much better if he didn't lob, but he has more fun lobbing. He's more of a showman than a competitor.

I talked to Bobrow and he is much more competitive than he looks. Yes, he likes to have fun and chases beautiful points but he also wants to win badly, especially in tournaments. I think he's just more comfortable with his lobbing style, it's natural for him. He can hit good topspin but just sometimes to mix it up and catch his opponents off-guard. If he play topspin all the time, he will be nowhere as good as he is with the lobbing style. If you are under 2200, it's not easy to win Bobrow in a large venue with only powerful smashes.
