Hi, Has anybody tried Tackiness Drive with the plastic ball. Before I would have said learn with Sriver or Mark V but I think maybe Tackiness Drive might be a better choice with the plastic ball. Any opinions?
Thanks

Other than nostalgia and newbies, nobody should be wasting money on these artifacts.

Certainly one of the best rubbers for beginners on an all+ blade for instance, it is still one of the best allround rubbers on the market, that is why BTY keeps on producing it more than 40 years after it was first released.
Then , if the person is improving and motivated, you can swith to a "modern" rubber with more speed and different sponge.

Beg to differ. Tackiness C and D also used to be quite durable. My club has a few old-timers. They're playing with these rubbers because they always have, and that's more than just nostalgia; it's also comfort that boosts confidence. And they really don't like changing rubbers frequently - in their experience, a rubber should just last a decade and a half or so. And they used to. I did note, however, that a new slab of Sriver solidified and became unplayable in a matter of mere months, whereas a 30+ years old slab on an old blade of mine still feels supple and grippy. So maybe they're not what they used to be. Even so, wanting to replace a rubber by the same rubber is a rational choice, not to be dismissed so easily as wasteful nostalgia.

You must've missed my post on durability of modern rubbers. Here is another one with that same setup, the one in my signature.
Even you admit yourself that Sriver is perhaps not made the same way nowadays. FWIW, Rozena and Aibiss cost less than Sriver/-EL/-FX or Tackiness Chop II where I am. But as the folks say it in China, no one is forcing anyone to 交智商稅. |
