the ecolo 2 might be like 20 bucks, but it will last you forever. I tried it out on about five different rubbers and it's still near the top...I guess it depends on how often you get new rubbers, but if your not speed glueing it should last for years.

cooking oil wont cut it bro, the top sheet is starting to seperate, its been a little over 18 hour since i put cooking oil on the sponge....
on the other hand, i also put some WD-40 on another piece, it been over 6 hours, it seem to have expanded and the top sheet isnt seperating so far,,, so i dont know, ill wait a little more and see what happen

If it smells like WD-40 chances are you wont sneak it past an umpire after the glue ban.

The original expander can be purchased in any hardware store. The main ingredient is used in some household cleaners if I remember correctly. IMO, it didn't work. I just purchased a bottle of EII.
Goof Off will expand the sponge, but be sure not to apply too much or the glue will not adhere since the chemical is intended to glues etc. Goof Off will also rejuvenate sheets with with glue applied.

I have a bottle of EE1 for anyone that wants it...for free. All I need is the shipping fee. I just remembered that the ingredient in EE1 is D'Limoene.

Some people at the club where I play use baby oil to soften the sponge of the harder chinese rubbers when new.
I had some new sheets of focus I that I had prepared - I put 6 layers of basic chack on them, letting dry between coats; the sponge definately expanded and this treatment made the rubber nicer to play with unglued (IMHO). I could also easily remove the glue buildup after the priming treatment. A guy at the club also had a sheet of focus that he had treated with baby oil - we compared, and found that just using basic glue expanded the sponge more, and made it softer. Incidentally, I have heard that EEI is just baby oil / mineral oil, give it a try and post results! |
