i have seen the videos kong, and mikael appelgren, and their style of play seems very tempting, this being choosing this style to adapt to.
ive played for about 1 yr and ahalf, still developing all my strokes, and have yet to categorise my self in any style. your thoughts and opinion. |

I think it takes a while after you've mastered your strokes to find a style.
Your style finds you. The way you use your strokes naturally will be your style, not trying to do something different. |

Whatever is the funnest. If you love backing up or defending yourself. Or getting those powerful loops.

What you call "allround play" and then putting Kong and Appelgreen is kinda exagerated...But OK I see what you mean. Guys that don't have a special extra power stroke but always consistent, very rare mistakes, blocking and pushing everything easily, able to start controlled loop anytime if needed. Yeah, I see what you mean. It's my worst nightmare...I played one yesterday and got a 11-5, 11-7, 11-4. But let me wish you good luck, because if you're not a natural all-round player that will need you years of hard training to get the skills...

ya when you do backhand block, its all wrong, your blade too far away from body... move your body so the ball is near middle of your body and your blade starts from infront of your chest, move forward backhand block the ball forward. That way more stable, accurate and forceful. See Zhang Yi Ning videos, she got excellent blocking technique.

there is no need to classify yourself under any category. if you really want to be "cool" then its best to label yourself wrongly, like if you prefer looping hard, you must tell others that your a chopper, because theres no point showing off and telling anyone your playing style unless it misleads them. they can find out your technique for themselves.
there is no need too, to master every single stroke in the book, the only must is to be fluent in both your backhand and forehand, as well as defend and attack comfortably at all times |

But if you want to be a chopper you have to classify yourself?

no sir dont. it creates an expectation and structure of your own game you feel inclined to stick to, making your game more rigid and inflexible and you will lack versatality when faced with an opposition which counters your playing style perfectly

eventhough my nickname is forehandchop... I only chop occasionally to set up my attack. Once chop converted to attack with loops, its all about drive and blocks.
almost forget about the counter loops against chops...
