http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/219819348/IAQ_Monitor_Detector.html
I was in luck to discover a non-costly household appliance by TONGY manufacturer (Tongdy VOC Sniffer) that can well serve as a personal VOC detector/controller for table tennis rackets..
TVS is using a multi-gas sensor (FIGARO semiconductor chipset, made in Japan) as being installed into ENEZ device., and it detectes most of VOCs with highest possible accuracy of 0.1ppm.
   Just put the racket close to the device's rear vent and you will see if your racket includes any volatile organic residuals and how much.
What is most essential, TVS device is amazingly cheap, some 50 USD a unit.
Any of competitive player, whether at pro or amateur level, can afford his own "home inspector" to feel rock-secure about his rackets legality.
---------------
ps// Tongdy"s head manager told me they could modify the TVS device to meet customer's any specific requirements, provided the delivery amount over 1000 units.

I am well convinced most of pro players would like to have such device of their own.    So, it seems a sound idea to cooperate more closely with Tongdy and make money from trading the personal VOC detectors all over the world. By my own estimation market demand for the device is now some 5.000 units
Perhaps Mr. Cole Ely willing to take adventure on? He is the very man for the task, I believe

Nice item but as most players here are amateur level they dont need to test voc's. Not sure where those numbers come from regarding demand but Im sure the top Pro players-coaches already have something like this. Still, for those in between would be useful

I don't think they do. They are just careful and make sure their bats get at least 2-3day  airing before competition.  50USD is high even to EJs for something that's of no real benefit.
Maybe a few nervous pros and clubs will buy if it is proven to work.
Running a tournament is difficult as it is. Most organisers/referees are not going to bother with testing as monitoring and performing takes up too much resources which could be used for umpiring etc.
But good idea nonetheless. I look forward to hearing the first reports.

Igor, do you have one? Have you tested it with good and bad examples?

Did you notice this in the description of gas detected?
"VOCs ( toluene emitted from wood finishing and construction products);

Cigarette smoke( hydrogen, carbon monoxide);

ammonia and H2S, alcohol, natural gas and smell by people’s body."

I wonder what's the chemical name for that gas?

Won't be a necessity, but would be great to have. Similar to scales. It doesn't matter how much a racket weights, since rackets balance differently and your hand is all you need to test the weight. However, it's nice to know much your blades and rubbers weight and you can report the results.
Just like how nice it would be know how much junk or pollutants are in your rubber, and you can report the results.
For example.
Tenergy 05 Red Sheet Uncut = 53grams  0.6ppm voc
Hurricane 3 Black Sheet Uncut = 55grams 1.9ppm voc

I will definitely put this in my wish list.

Better yet, if your neighbor has some really annoying children, or if you have some really awful coworkers, have them sniff your blade and see if they can detect the speed glue Evil Smile

Of course, the machines used in table tennis are not much better than random the way they are used, so whether or not you get a positive result at a tournament is not all that well correlated to whether you actually used VOC in your setup.  This is a result of one of the fine decisions made by Adham Shahara (Dada), His Excellency, President for Life of ITTF (and a Private ITTF Incorporated in Canada), Al Hadji Doctor, Conqueror of the British Empire in the World in General and in Canada In Particular, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas, Field Marshal, and Arbiter of all that is Great and Good in Table Tennis as Long as the Balls Get Bigger and The Payoffs Grow Larger, etc.
