How do you keep rubber tacky when playing? After playing for a while, my serves seems to generate less spin, which i think is because of the dust it picks up.

During a match I breathe on the racket with an open mouth (not blowing with lips closed) to get a light film of water to condense on the rubber. Then I wipe the rubber with the heel of my hand until it is dry and hopefully get all the dust onto my hand. When it is warm the breath will not condense so I often resort to using a little sweat to dampen the rubber. Then I rub it as before. Between matches I wet my hand with water and wipe the rubber. Then I dry it with a micro-fiber cloth (no lint cloth). If it was really bad I suppose you could accidentally spill some drinking water on your hand at a water break and then wipe and dry your racket before starting play again. Technically illegal, but if it is ok to wipe with a sweaty hand then why not a wet hand. |
