Can't see too well in the picture but it doesn't look like TG2's head stamp. TTRubberman's web site has a good picture of the Whale II. It looks very similar to the one on Ma Lin's blade. However, the sponge on the Ma Lin picture seems to be red. Could it be another special hybrid?

It is whale II. And littlefish, that is what regular whale looks like I believe, where as the special tuned is black.

I'll definitely get myself one of those Whale rubber to try.. Hope the performance match the expectation..

LiXiao
the BH rubber sponge looks white in the pic. Bryce sponge is orange. Is it not a Tensor of some sort?

Its dark because that is the sweat from his hand that stains the paddle. Look at the rest of it it is white.

Yes, it is just the ML carbon handle on the extra offensive. From another thread  there is a very clear picture of Ma Lin's blade. You can clearly see there are no carbon layers from the sanded area of his blade.

It used to be TG2 for fh and Bryce for bh. May be Ma Lin just changed the fh rubber but kept the Bryce for bh? Anyone has another picture showing his current bh rubber?

Uh...aren't you NOT supposed to use dark sponges... Or is that just for red rubbers?

Anyways it's good to see that Ma is trying different things.

Actually its the same YEO hes been using for years.  Since his was pretty much the first one made, they used the Ma Lin Carbon badge because there was no YEO badge back then.  Also, his top ply is just faded from years and years of speed glue use which is why it doesnt seem as dark.  This info was from a poster who had first hand knowledge of the Yasaka wood blade factory.  I'am sure someone could dig up the post in the archives.  There are also close up pictures available somewhere on the forum which shows that it is indeed 5 ply wood.  His switch to Haifu is pretty interesting however... would be awesome if someone could get a real close up detailed pic.

its the YEO with MLC handle like said above multiple times. Why would a professional of ma lin's caliber just switch to the MLC all of a sudden? None of the other chinese are really switching from wood to carbon.. why would he change his blade? professionals switching blades is completely different from us doing it. They use the same blade for years. Every bit of play with that blade is very fine tuned.. why would he all of a sudden switch rubber AND blade. He would completely have to readjust. He wouldn't just switch to a carbon blade all of a sudden. Especially right now with WTTC coming up and what not.

also.. especially switching from wood to carbon. Carbon blades are completely different and require even more adjustment.

He's not just gonna switch to carbon all of a sudden.

BUT look at the picture closely and dont make assumptions. Look closer to the rubber it is much much much lighter than even his custom YEO, and I thought the ma lin carbon had little carbon in it.

you cant make assumptions based off of one so so quality internet picture either. What I said is just common sense. It doesn't look that far off.. It's darker than the MLC either way.. and not just because of sweat marks. I've seen a picture of the YEO he uses that isnt much darker than the picture shown.

and whether its little carbon or a lot of carbon.. its still carbon. The feel between the YEO and MLC are completely different, and would take a lot of adjustment for someone who counts on every little aspect of his blade's performance.
