I'm wondering about sanding down a wooden blade handle to make it slightly thinner. Will it ruin the look of the stained wood, or is the wood dyed deep enough so I can shave off a millimeter or two and it will still look good and retain its color?

(FYI, it's a nicely constructed, Japanese-made H.S. Cryzer w/ flared handle. It feels just slightly wider than some of my other flared blades.)

Thanks for any input.

as far as i know, the handles of all the blades are not just painted on the outside, so sanding down shouldn't ruin the color

Has anybody tried to do it ? If not, then there is always a risk that if you sand down too much the colour will fade out.

It's perfectly safe to sand down the handle. The wood is dyed all the way through, at least on the blades I've owned it has been.
