I have been watching videos of choppers from USATT 1800 to Pro. I was wondering what would be the best way to return a short serve to your BH that doesn't have much topsin or is underspin (If your BH is Long Pips chopping rubber with sponge). I have seen some players use their FH (smooth rubber) to push these types of serves back.
The goal is to be able to get into a position to start chopping away from table as soon as possible and attack when a decent opportunity arises. Any suggestions? |

If you are right handed take a half-step forward and with the long pips facing up and the head of the racket at approximately 45 degree angle down, very gently brush forward and slightly upward the ball, as if you were trying to drop it over the net and heading off the table.
Also check the thread on "side-swiping with the long pips." |
