The 2nd layer cant be Koto, doesnt make sense. In 5 ply composition core is allways vertical , 2nd ply are horizontal, top plys are vertical again. When I look at the pictures from take9 and compare them to my donic appelgren allplay(old version) which has 2nd ply koto too, it does look quite different from all sides.
Meranti could indeed make sense, it does look similar is hard wood too. 2nd layer does not look like typical mahagoni in the picture from take9. |

Regarding the new, blue handle Alpha, I agree. It could be meranti, too.

Thats the one I meant, the old one coul be indeed mahagoni, defenitely not koto either.
