I like putting heavy topspin on the ball...

A player in China has the motive and possiblity of changing his or her birthday. That's almost a solid fact. However, some people went too far by pretending he or she has some kind of scientific eyes for detecting the facial difference between a coupe of 16 or 17 years old; this is pure BS.

Speculation is that Fan zhendong may have his age changed, based on the circumstance and motive, not because of his facial structure. Again, google some pictures of 17 or 16 Chinese boys and see if you can tell who is 16 or 17 or even 18. I was told that I looked like a 25-yr old when I was only 17. I guess i need to thank God that  I was not playing tt or I would be called a cheater for sure.

No one needs a scientific eye to recognize how "far" in puberty a boy is. I don't know about you but I am asian and in his age, I looked nothing like him and none of my asian friends did. European kids or "white" kids in general, that's a different story, most of my classmates looked 20 when they were 15. I am not claiming FZD is not truly 16 but from what I have seen, he doesn't look like 16 by "asian standards" if you will. I know that he's a top athlete in his young age but his build is really well-too developed compared to other kids like Lin Gaouyan or Song Hongyuan or even older kids like Koki Niwa or Kenta Matsudaira. Again, he well might have hit puberty early, not like it has never happened before, even among asians.
The thing with me is that I don't look at a young player, whatever the country is, and doubt his age just because he's too good. With FZD I asked that question because he simply looked "older". When you look at those french kids, tristan flores, quentin robinot, etc. even if they are tall, you can still believe they are around their age.
If anything, his face is quite the "babyface", actually. It's more like his overall body build that makes me question his age.

What kind of body build Fan is supposed to have? Niwa Koki's bony body build is the standard for Asian boys at 16? Niwa will be "16" until he gets bald! Look at the body build of the Chinese kids in this picture (other than teachers, the kids are are supposed to be 16 years) and tell me Fan Zhendong cannot blend in.

# Rules for women (thanks to a chinese friend Tommy Lee):

There are 22 players in stage 1 (2th-7th, Feb, Chengdu, Sichuan province). These players play all games between them. At last the first two could go to Paris directly! And, if a player could win two consecutive ITTF World Tour, like Kuwait Open and Qatar Open, she could go to Paris too.

14 players (No. 3-16 in the 1st stage) will play in the 2nd stage, but the schedule and the rule hasn't been announced.

Look in the following photo the women's list (@1st stage):

End of 1st stage: 1) LI Xiaoxia 2) LIU Shiwen 3) ZHU Yuling

how does this matter even the slightest? All i care is how good someone is. The world is full of promising prodigys who never achieved anything. If he ever wins anything, i will respect him, otherwise i wont, and his real age couldn't matter less.
If you wana talk crap about people lets talk about the french! Now those little %#$@%^@s..

joking : )

Interesting.. The rules of the women encourage consistency and winning. While the rules of men are more eccentric.

Some folks on youtube posted vague translations but better than nothing:

"They talked about several things:

1. In this game, Ma Long said, he had to use his own style, more changes, to break out of the tangled rallies with Zhang Jike.

2. Ma Long said, since the success in London Olympic, he has more confidence now.

3. He said although both Zhang Jike and he are not listed top 3 in the public voting session, which decides who can directly join the 3rd stage game for Paris, he doesn't mind this result. Because he thinks that Ma Lin and Wang Liqin have more fans.

Also, Ma Long asks for other famous stars' fans to vote for him on the Internet, e.g., Jay Chou, a Taiwanese pop singer. Although Ma Long has never talked to Jay face to face...he likes Jay's music very much:)"

"we are pretty much same level of skills with jike, i just keep changing tactics.. i know wang hao is commenting me... after Olympic.. i have more confident and experience.

he said he may has less fans.. he hope more voters for him. etc....i hope this help."

If you could tell me how to view/extract the full CCTV 5 videos I'd translate them for you =)

Problem is, I am indeed outside China. Let me see if I could go around that.

Thanks for the encouragements guys! I hope my subtitles have enhanced your enjoyment of the match. Subtitling process is slow without proper tools, so my next videos will take awhile

Meanwhile here’s Xu Xin vs Yan An, commentated by Ma Junfeng

I was hoping to translate the Ma Long – Fan Zhendong match. Wang Tao is very willing to share and he said pretty interesting stuffs. Too bad the audio is out of sync!
