Because the two-toned ball was plastic according to some reports.

I thought I read they wear using cell. ball just two color for their finals and the plastic would be used first time in the next ITTF tournament.

Except that these days Chinese players win nearly every major event, as we all should know.  There is such a thing as reality.   Maybe a visitor from the future will be able to do better, but Igor, your favorite players have actually played in the recent past with pretty much no success against CNT players.  Maybe Niwa will beat Zhang Jike regularly in some sort of alternative Star Trek universe, like the one where Spock has a beard and Uhuru wears leather.

Or maybe this guy Taisey Niwa you are talking about is some player we have never heard of before, an evil twin of Koki Niwa, who will stun ZJK with a taser right before the match and win that way, and thereby get his new name, after which ZJK says "don't tase me bro" in Chinese.  (Sort of like in the Book of Genesis in the Bible, where after Jacob beats God in a wrestling match he gets to take the new name Israel).

very unsportmanlike behavior from the women. Never a good handshake, never look your opponent in the eyes like the men do. Like a bunch of sissies. The final of the superleague should be better than that. LGL needs to talk to them.

All reports I've seen say that the two tone ball is plastic.
This was a great signature until I realised it was overrated.

Watch the last point in the 4th game at 4:05. Dimi slow loops nothing special and the ball bounces weird and Jike can't handle it.

The new ball gives a weird bounce sometimes.

I would look closely to Zhang till next WTTC. He seems to start to level up his game and may be at top form when worlds comes. If he wins some protours events early next year I would put him to make a remarkable 3-peat.

You are right with respect to the degree of which the matches ZJK won were close.
Nevertheless, ZJK looks like a complete player. His body position and swings are always natural. I don't know why, but even if he gets jammed and has to pull one off his ribs, somehow he still looks natural. And he has this animal-like stepping around the table.
And also, if we can indulge to generalize for a second, it is impossible to find a chinese player not in CNT but anyone in the superleague, where their form is so biased and unbalanced. I think chinese coaches DO NOT TOLERATE THAT. So when you are young, they help you balance your game, and if you fail, they just kick you out. In europe its not so competitive and coaches not so good, and if you can win, any way, good or ugly, - thats what counts, and they will promote you.

If only could DO flip a couple more with his fh from the right small triangle. He has improved with his FH short game, but still a long to go.

Agreed. Dima's body is his main problem. Not that this info adds anything to this thread...

ZJK got crushed, brutalized in game 2 when he tried BH to BH rally, which happens to be his specialty. I am the biggest ZJK fan around here, but one has to admit it.

In the consequent games ZJK went to great lengths to avoid BH to BH rallies, and still got whacked by a few BHs. Ovtcharov's BH, when he connects, is so loaded with energy. It doesn't look too fast, but it is spiny as well, and the ball is just frkn loaded. If ZJK can't hold him off in BH to BH, nobody can.

At the end, ZJK prevailed because he is a complete player. He won 90% of the FH to FH points and could initiate attack with FH very easily, unlike DO. Also ZJK has better touch in the short game (always pushing to DO's short FH). DO is big and clumsy and popped quite a few in the short game.

All in all, DO tried to ride his BH to the finish line, but came up short. ZJK displayed incredible tactics imo and make the perfect adjustments to take DO's BH advantage away.

I always thought eventually DO will try to balance his game but I guess it is too late now. His grip is severely BH oriented, his right foot is always forward so his body is BH oriented as well, and every time he strikes a FH his body is twisting awkwardly, almost painfully. Not a good looking game for a pro.

Poor Dima - to have such an effort ruined by poor serving when he changed sides is remarkable.

Yeah, to lose 7 points in a row after being 4:0 up, that's something.
