So, I got a sheet of this as part of a tt-japan order. The price is reasonable-ish from there (but it's very expensive at TT11). Arrived this morning.
It's made in China, has a glossy, semi-tacky topsheet (looks just like Big Dipper) on a black porous sponge. No tuning or pre-glue layer visible, no particular smell of anything. Pics (not great quality unfortunately): Edited by AndySmith - 08/17/2015 at 5:36am |

Yes, I am ALL the men. Pics added. I have a tournament this weekend so I won't be mixing my equipment around until that's out of the way. Will report back when I've had chance to give it a blast.

On one hand it seems like Palio-Yasaka hybrid (similar to Zap rubbers). OTOH, rather pricey for China-made ribber...

It's very expensive for Chinese. Heavy and hard too. I'm probably not going to like it.

Got me one, with 2 Tibhar 7ply furious blades., The dragon was indeed sticky, could lift the ball with it, but after a few sweaty wipes the stickiness went and it's gone, no more ball lifting now, More robot and play time tomorrow...

From TT-Japan for around that price, you could buy Rhyzm, a rubber from the Vega/Boost family, or X-Tend HS.

I like Rising Dragon. After breaking it in it's simi-sticky only, not traditional Chinese. More spin than T05, and slower but not by much. Not overly heavy either. Nice sound on the blade that was testing on. Like it but $40 is still too much. $30 at tt-japan is OKish.

I haven't updated this thread. Mainly because a clubmate was looking for a tacky rubber and I let him try Rising Dragon. He loved it, bought it off me, and that was that. So I ended up with very little time to try it out overall - just a few hours.
I stole his bat last night and had a quick bash once more to refresh my memory. The tack has almost completely gone - it's just barely there now. It felt super nice actually - the topsheet is good, but the sponge performed very well. If I closed my eyes, I could believe that it was a Jap sponge. Although it's hard, it still has a useful elastic feel and reminds me most of a hard variant of Stiga's Airoc sponge. Certainly a more modern feel to a typical hard chinese rubber, nicer for a regular tensor user like me, and a step up from the harder versions of Big Dipper (for example). I'm not saying that RD is actually using a Jap sponge though. No way to be 100% sure. I'll probably order another sheet on my next tt-japan spree.

Andy, can it possibly be good enough to justify $30 a sheet? I just ordered a few sheets of Rasant variants at $30 a sheet, including shipping! Rising Dragon would of course be $30 plus shipping at tt-japan. I'm struggling to believe it's worth it.

I'm not sure. It's definitely not worth €45-50, which is the range most euro stores are charging. $30? Maybe. Shipping isn't cheap at tt-japan though, so I think that pushes it into maybe- territory.

I agree with AndySmith about the sponge, the best part of the rubber. It's hard but still kicks is how I would describe it. Too bad I didn't ask what the hardness of the sponge I used.

I first noticed this rubber a day or two ago over at TTDB.com. It is currently their "Best Overall" rubber (not that that is saying much with only 6 reviews, but it did catch my attention, leading in "Most Spin", "Most Gears", and "Best Overall").

I tried a sheet last night and I was not impressed. The sponge was pretty dead and lacked power while the topsheet was not very tacky at all. I normally play T80 and would have expected that my short game would instantly have a little boost from the tack but it did not whatsoever.
