    Posted: 08/06/2009 at 1:15pm
I am looking for a lightest combination Shakehand  ( blade + rubber ), normal sized blade for a 4yr old child

for rubber, I prefer pips-in type and as for the blade, Wood or carbon does not matter. Can anyone recomend me one.

thanks.

I have a very light combination with the SawTec.  It could be lighter using thinner sponge than 2.0 Big Slam.

Butterfly Ai Fukuhara with Mambo (or something similar, with really soft sponge) would be really light!

They do have Child-Size blades and setups. A lot of kids training in China 5-7 yrs old don't use a full size blade to practice. They are usually around 25% smaller.

thanks, I prefer him playing with the regular sized bat.

Yes, indeed the LKT pro XP are very light... I will go with two of those with then thinest sponge.

Now the blade.

What is the lightest legal blade available in the market ?

TSP Versal is around 63-67g but is OFF speed

For ALL speed blades - LKT Instincts (not plus) generally run in the 70-74g range. And at $16, hard to beat.

My OC CR is only 79 grams (I asked for mid 80s:) )

But any good ALL/ALL+ balsa/composite blade is ideal for a child and they will play very well with one. Most of the good jnrs here use something like say the TSP 4.5 or so

I am currently using KLHS, its 76g... I am looking for a regular sized blade below 70g if possible for my 4 yr old child.  Thanks for all the suggestions, I will go and take a look at my local table tennis shops.

I think I will just go with the LKT Pro XP. This bat and rubber will probably be damaged within months.

I just want to let him start hitting the ball across the table and get familiar with real rubber and blade. So, there is no need for anything fancy.

I am not sure what he will become in few years time, currently at 3yr old, I just let him roll ball on the floor with a basic bat ( which is almost destroyed already and too heavy ), he is quite good at it already ( he is able to execute/counter with backhand and forehand accurately on the floor ). Next year, at 4yr old he gets a table and a real bat to play with.

this is him

Buy some balsa wood and make a blade yourself.

Three layers of 3mm of parallel grain balsa will do. The middle layer should have grains at 90 degrees to the outer two sheets to give strength. It could be 55g or less.

For rubbers, Dr Neubauer -Pistol is very light. It is short pimple but could be spinnier than some reverse rubbers.

Or buy some light topsheet only, say, DHS666, etc, and put light 2mm craft work sponge.

It won't be fast but good for kid for control.

I don't think you care if it is ITTF legal or not for a 4 yrs old.

However, this will be too light as if a feather. May be a bit early for a 4 yrs to play SP. Pistol is strange and could be LP like in blocking but could be fast and spinny to loop. Note my name is reverse.

Wow, tsd, even though you seldom played nowadays due to your children, you are starting your kids very young.

Cheers.

Gosh... who are u ?

I have stop playing for more than a year now except last month I have an emergency tournament where I have a 4 hours practice at Sunway Lagoon Club :)

At least I got a chance to play my new KLHS for the first time... I think I can play better with it compared to my old Sardius.

I cant leave the house, so I play at home with my kid :)

How I wish my parents let me start playing when I was 3, I would have achieved more :) I will let my child have this chance :)
